reddia.gif (1120 bytes) Feeding Guidelines reddia.gif (1120 bytes)
Important: Follow the conversion method.

Method 1
Feed every morning: Offer slightly more food than your aquatic turtle can eat in a 5-7 hour period, and allow your pet access to its food for the entire daylight period. Important: Be sure to remove uneaten food at the end of each day.

Method 2
Feed turtles in a separate "feeding" tank: This method reduces waste and debris and helps maintain water quality. Put turtles in their "feeding tank" with slightly more food than they can eat in 1-2 hours every day.

These quantities serve as initial estimates, since the amount of food eaten by your aquatic turtle will depend on its size, condition, health, and tank temperature.

reddia.gif (1120 bytes) General Care Considerations reddia.gif (1120 bytes)

A healthy aquatic turtle is alert and aware of its surroundings, actively swimming in its tank. Its eyes are bright and its nose is free of discharge. It will eat readily, and enjoy basking. Aquatic turtle stools are dark and formed.

Food intakes will be less than normal when animals are cold, sick or stressed. Low food intake is unhealthy for your aquatic turtle and will increase its susceptibility to serious disease. Factors that may stress your aquatic turtle include a tank that is too small or too cold, dirty water, and intimidation from tank-mates. Check water temperature and quality, and observe for stressful conditions. If low food intakes persist, consult your veterinarian.

Important: Water quality is essential for the health of your aquatic turtle. Water should be filtered continuously and changed frequently.
